Web 2.0 Thoughts

Overall I enjoyed the activities in Web 2.0. I found some of them to be more challenging then others, but I feel that I learned a lot. I am now able to search many more sites and find new and interesting things:)

Craigslist

I love craigslist. I use it on a daily basis and have even responded to some of the ads. I think that its a great way to see what is going on, on the island as well as to sell items. I mostly use it to look for job openings and to buy tickets. I found this ad under the events section. It is about the play Beauty and the Beast that is taking place in East Islip. Here is the link:

Google Docs

I felt that this program was similar to just fowarding a document to someone over any email. Although this may be the case, it is just another way to transfer information to someone and have them help you edit a document.

Wiki

I think Wiki's are very interesting. Although they are not an authoritative site, I use them when I need to find information quickly. Usually its something that I have an idea about, but just need clarification. Before going through this step, I never knew about other Wiki's other than Wikipedia. When I'm at the reference desk helping patrons, I usually tell them that Wikipedia is not a accurate source, but is great for information that you need clarification on.

New RSS Feeds

I viewed the Syndic8.com site and felt that it was very poorly organized. It was difficult to understand what was a news feed and what was not. Of all the sites, I found Blogline's Search Tool to be the easiest. I didn't realize how many sites have the news feed icon on the site.

RSS

After looking through what our site has as RSS feeds, I choose to subscribe to the Children's and Parents Services New Books. I thought that it would be helpful to me as a Children's Librarian to see what new books were out. As for the public, I think having these feeds encourage them to tell us what they are looking for and what they would like to see at the library. I also think that it provides a lot of information to the public.

I never realized that a Fall Festival had taken place in my area. I found this site to be very informative.
